The use of antibiotics in aquaculture to treat infections has resulted in the development of resistant strains rendered antibiotic treatment ineffective. Several plants, plant extracts and constituents have been identified as having anti-microbial, antiviral or antifungal activities and are often considered as immune enhancing. Vibrio species are often considered opportunistic pathogen in shrimp, but primarily disease can also be caused by highly virulent strains. Reservoirs of antibiotic resistance has led farmers to less options for treatment. There is a global drive to find alternative treatment with novel mechanism of action to remove bacterial and viral infections from ponds. We find non-antibiotics and herbal active principle based approach to curb bacterial and viral infections from infected ponds. We have selected specific phyto chemicals to control vibriosis as well as viral diseases from infected ponds.
