VIBTHERA, NANOTECHNOLOGY TO CONTROL SHRIMP WHITE FECAL DISEASE, Feed Supplement
Highlights:
White Feces Syndrome (WFS) is an emergent disease of penaeid shrimp (Penaeus monodon and P. vannamei) that is identified by the presence of floating white fecal strings on pond water in grow-out ponds. Although the clinical manifestations of WFS are well defined, the underling etiology remains obscure. WFS in P. vannamei pre-infected with EHP and challenged with a unique isolate of Vibrio parahaemolyticus isolated from the gastrointestinal tract of a shrimp displaying WFS. There is limited information on specific immune mechanisms provided by the shrimp gut microbiota there are evidences of its interplay with the digestive activities that directly affect shrimp growth and severity of diseases. New emerging diseases were found to target the shrimp hepatopancreas causing growth inhibition, size disparity, loss of appetite and chronic mortality.
Silver, copper, and zinc nanoparticles present a promising solution for controlling White Fecal Disease in shrimp. By providing antimicrobial, immune-boosting, and gut health benefits, these nanoparticles support shrimp health and production efficiency. We have used silver nanoparticles, copper nanoparticle and zinc nanoparticles & IgY antibodies to control Vibriosis. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have strong broad-spectrum antimicrobial effects. They can inhibit bacterial growth by disrupting cell membranes, binding to bacterial DNA, and generating reactive oxygen species (ROS). AgNPs are particularly effective against Vibrio species. Copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) have bactericidal and antifungal properties that are beneficial in managing bacterial infections in shrimp. CuNPs disrupt the bacterial cell wall and interfere with microbial enzyme function, leading to cell death. Zinc nanoparticles (ZnNPs) also exhibit antimicrobial properties and play a role in immune enhancement. They interfere with bacterial metabolism and protein synthesis, which can help control gut pathogens that cause White fecal disease. The antimicrobial action of these nanoparticles can reduce harmful bacterial loads in the shrimp gut, supporting a healthier microbiome.
Immunoglobulin Y (IgY) antibodies, derived from egg yolk, offer a promising approach for controlling Vibrio infections in shrimp, including White Fecal Disease. IgY antibodies specifically target pathogens, neutralizing them and preventing infection. When used in aquaculture, they can help reduce pathogen load and enhance shrimp immunity, providing a natural, antibiotic-free approach to disease control. Fructooligosaccharides (FOS), Mannan oligosaccharides (MOS), and Vitamin E are increasingly used in aquaculture to help control diseases, including White Fecal Disease (WFD) in shrimp. WFD, often associated with bacterial pathogens like Vibrio species, affects gut health and overall shrimp well-being. These components work by supporting gut health, strengthening immunity, and reducing pathogen load, helping to manage WFD effectively. At the same time Selenium nanoparticles, Vitamin E to boost immune system of shrimp. This helps to control bacterial and associated other infectious agents and help to improve productivity. In addition, chelated minerals, vitamins and growth promotors helps to improve recovery from disease.
